The California Community Colleges Curriculum Alignment Project

The California Community Colleges Curriculum Alignment Project has developed a program of study for early care and education (ECE) teacher preparation. A consistent educational core throughout California’s Community College Early Childhood/Child Development programs will help prepare ECE teachers to support success of young children, as well as facilitate their AA and BA completion.

Most colleges already offer similar courses, content, and student learning outcomes that will align with these recommendations, but many courses do not transfer to four-year programs. What is new here is the concept of bundling the foundation of eight courses as a 24-unit core, called the "Lower Division 8". The united effort to seek equitable transfer agreements for students across the state is also new, and very important for degree completion.
