The 13th Annual Report on the Conditions of Children in Orange County

The First Annual Report on the Condition of Children in Orange County was developed in 1993 and presented information and data on 28 indicators describing the status of Orange County's children. The stated purpose of the report was "to provide a comprehensive picture of the present condition of children in Orange County and to establish a baseline from which to measure future progress and track changing conditions." This report, the 13th Annual Report on the Conditions of Children in Orange County, 2007, has been expanded to include 39 indicators, but the purpose of the report remains the same.

As with past reports, the indicators are presented in four sections - Good Health, Economic Well-Being, Educational Achievement, and Safe Homes and Communities. Each section opens with a vignette describing an Orange County child and family - a real life perspective the numbers cannot fully portray. Each indicator is defined and the findings and trends are presented along with a discussion of why the indicator is important and what is the local significance.

This year, in the 13th report, the Special Section focuses on Homeless and Unstably Housed Children in Orange County. The Discussion Topics include: Developmental Screenings in the Good Health section; Child Support in the Economic Well-Being section; Community Service Learning Programs in the Education section; and Gangs in the Safe Homes and Community section of the Report.
