Parents’ Views on Universal Preschool [CPPT, Section 6e]

Karen Hill-Scott and Company (KHS) contracted with Data Trends LLC to conduct ten focus groups of parents with preschool-aged children across Los Angeles County. The purpose of the focus groups was to understand how parents viewed preschool, to heighten our awareness of what they would expect from a preschool program, and to understand what they hoped their children would gain from the experience of having preschool. The expectation was that the qualitative data from parents of diverse backgrounds would suggest common themes shared by all parents, and themes that differentiated parents based on culture or ethnic traditions. Our overarching goal was to discern what dimensions of the preschool service delivery model should be shaped by parent preferences, interests and concerns.
