Mendocino County Universal Preschool Plan

In early 2006, the Mendocino County Office of Education received a planning grant for Universal Preschool from FIRST 5 Mendocino. Subsequently, the Universal Preschool Steering Committee was formed. Composed of representatives from State Preschool, the Child Care Planning Council, Child Development Services, Student Services and Special Education, the Steering Committee met 8 times and provided broad planning input, overseeing the work of the task forces and identifying the strategic involvement of key stakeholders at specific points in the planning process.

The Steering Committee also conducted 3 key stakeholder meetings. The intent of these meetings was to involve local partners from State Preschools, Head Start, Early Head Start, Early Start, the Child Care Planning Council, school districts, family child care providers, higher education, and community-based organizations. After a fifteen month planning process and collaboration the Mendocino County Universal Preschool Plan was created.
