2007 California Child Care Portfolio

The California Child Care Resource & Referral Network compiled data about the state and each of its 58 counties to provide critical information about child care supply and demand, and about the broad demographic issues that impact families and child care. Since 1997, the Portfolio has provided reliable information about the amount of licensed care and the estimated demand for care in each county and statewide. Over the years, the Portfolio has helped policy makers, community leaders, businesses, nonprofit organizations, school districts, and other stakeholders understand and address the challenges of providing quality, affordable care and early education for children throughout California.

As with the five previous portfolios, this 2007 report is based on data gathered by state-funded resource and referral programs (R&Rs), along with data from the U.S. Census, California Department of Finance, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and other public and private sources. The R&R data represents a sampling of calls from thousands of parents over a three month period in 2006.
